Yama Tsune was founded as a knit-wear manufacturer in Nagoya Prefecture in 1963. originally the company mainly produced products for women, and had many contracts with various large corporations. Their main objective at that time was simply to make as many knit products as they could to meet the demand. The economic bubble was just around the corner for Japan and the demand for socks and mittens was increasing drastically, people expected a lot from their products, in particular, durability. This high demand helped Yama Tsune grow rapidly. They listened to their customers, checked and rethought the way they made all their products. They started again from scratch in order to make the best products possible. In 2014 to showcase the technology that they had developed, they opened a store on the northern island of Hokkaido called Yamatune, a store that specialises almost exclusively in socks. The machines on display in the store are the very ones that were used right at the beginning of the company’s foundation in 1963. The founder of the company Ito Tsuneyuki visits the store occasionally to oil them.
